installing wordpress on your localhost using wamp or xampp server

This tutorial will teach you how you can install wordpress on your localhost such as xampp or wamp server. This might be common to some people, but to those it will be of help to kindly follow the steps below to install wordpress on your localhost (wamp). This tutorial will mostly be of help to those who don't have online server yet but still want to work with wordpress,  it will help you to install wordpress on your local computer.

How to install wordpress on wamp server

However, this is a very simple guide. It is also available in video tutorial format. Now lets follow the procedures below to install WP on our localhost..
In case you are a total novice, localhost plays the role of online server once installed in your computer, so by installing wamp server your computer is now a localhost. download wamp server here if you dont have it already, kindly install it the moment your download is complete.

Downloading and installing wordpress

Download latest wordpress from here, you will be downloading WP in zip format, now extract it and copy the extracted folder, go to your drive C and open wamp folder you will see www folder open it and paste the extracted folder there, rename the folder to wordpress if it is not named wordpress. now locate your wamp server you installed ealier and start it. Open your browser and type localhost/wordpress you will see your  wordpress setup page. But we need to setup the word press database first, now open a new tab in your browser and type localhost/phpmyadmin, this will take you to the database management area. Create a new database for your wordpress by typing wordpress in the create new datebase field and click on create.
Now open your www folder and copy and paste the file named wp-config-sample in thesame directory, rename the copy version to wp-config.php and open it in a text editor and edit the following line of code

  1. define('DB_NAME', 'database_name_here');
  2. define('DB_USER', 'username_here');

  3. define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password_here');

Edit to

  1. define('DB_NAME', 'wordpress');
  2. define('DB_USER', 'root');
  3. define('DB_PASSWORD', '');

Then save it and goto the localhost/wordpress tab in your browser to continue wordpress setup, fill the form that you will see and click on install wordpress. Click on login form the next page that will show up and provide your username and password you specified in the first stage and login. Now you will be taken to worpress control panel.. enjoy

How to install wordpress on xampp server

installing wordpress on your localhost using xampp is almost thesame with the steps given above except for xamp setup.
Now download xamp here and install it on your computer then launch it once it is installed, copy the wordpress extracted folder, go to your local drive c:( for windows users). Open a subfolder called htdocs and paste it there which is the root folder for all your web scripts. Now all remaining steps are thesame with the ones explained above, follow them carefully to get your wordpress installed on your lacalhost.
